Grease resistance is
where paper usually cheats.

Making paper hold back oil is the hardest thing in this category to do without chemistry you would rather not name.

The shortcut

Fluorinated coatings

The cheapest way to make paper grease-resistant is a fluorochemical treatment. It works, it is invisible, and it puts PFAS into the compost — which is exactly the outcome composters and regulators are now testing for.

Our route

Under 100 ppm, verified

BPI certification requires the manufacturer to declare no added fluorinated chemicals and to test total organic fluorine below 100 ppm. Above that number, a product is disqualified outright. That is the same limit that applies to our cups and straws.

Because the fluorine limit is part of the certification and not a marketing line, you can state it. We give you the exact wording your packaging can carry, in writing, before you commit to a print run.
